Hing Hay Coworks is a nonprofit collaborative workspace and community development hub for local entrepreneurs, freelancers, startups, and community organizations located in the heart of the Seattle Chinatown International District (CID), Seattle’s most ethnically diverse neighborhood.
A program of the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation & Development Authority (SCIDpda), Hing Hay Coworks was developed with the intention of providing a shared office space to local small businesses and to support the community. As an historic neighborhood, the CID has many advantages: it is a major transit hub, adjacent to downtown Seattle, home to immigrants supported by culturally-competent services, and thriving small businesses that reflect a Pan-Asian culture unique in the region.
Our goal is to catalyze the chances of success for businesses in the neighborhood. As entrepreneurs inhabit Hing Hay Coworks, we anticipate that the CID economy will diversify, thereby advancing the ongoing economic development of the CID.
Hing Hay Coworks is a unique, place-based space. We created it for the neighborhood—for members and friends of the CID. For that reason, it cannot be replicated elsewhere. Our belief is that created spaces should benefit their environment. Hing Hay Coworks does just that—a home base for bright minds and bright ideas that nurtures the neighborhood in which it was born. By bringing together old and new—including people, ideas, and resources—in the CID, we are working to change the odds for the success of this neighborhood.
