Leslie Haynes serves as Office Manager for Historic South Downtown. She brings a wealth of experience directing technical assistance projects for national initiatives. For the past decade, she worked closely with school developers and educational reformers as a strategic advisor on professional and organizational development. She has written and spoken extensively about effective transitions to college for underserved populations; her research and development projects are grounded in classroom practice and focus on youth development issues. Previous posts include reform work to improve instructional strategies in literacy and school-to-work programs. Ms. Haynes also spent twelve years teaching English to adolescents and young adults in a variety of institutions, from residential schools to community colleges. She holds a Master’s in Education from Lesley College and a Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of the South. Most recently, Ms. Haynes created a fledgling non-profit with her husband who suffers from a progressively degenerative neurological disease and now rides a wheelchair. Their organization, We Will Find a Way, provides advocacy and support for people confronting physical barriers to educational and career opportunities.
